Robinhood Chain Hits $3 Billion in Daily DEX Volume, Driving a Record $1.15 Million UNI Burn

The Arbitrum-built Ethereum layer 2 that Robinhood launched on July 1 saw decentralized-exchange volume climb from $989 million on Aug 28 to $1.6 billion on Sept 1 and $3 billion on Sept 4, with Uniswap handling about 98% of it and burning a record 184,000 UNI in a day.

Robinhood Chain, the Ethereum layer 2 that the brokerage launched on July 1 using Arbitrum's technology stack, cleared $3 billion in daily decentralized-exchange volume for the first time on Thursday, September 4, according to Bitcoin.com News citing on-chain data. The milestone caps a week in which the chain's DEX activity roughly tripled and, for a day, exceeded volume on Ethereum's own mainnet.

The numbers

  • DEX volume rose 61% from $989 million on August 28 to $1.595 billion on September 1, per DeFiLlama figures reported by Decrypt's Jason Nelson, then reached $3 billion on September 4.

  • As of September 1 the chain held $738 million in total value locked, $797 million in stablecoins and $2.52 billion in bridged assets, with perpetuals volume of about $354 million a day.

  • Cumulative since launch: $34.6 billion in DEX volume, 576 million transactions, 12.3 million addresses and more than 190 tokenized stocks, per Bitcoin.com. Robinhood's Johann Kerbrat told Decrypt the chain processed more than 200 million transactions in August alone.

Uniswap is the main beneficiary

Uniswap handles about 98% of the chain's DEX volume, and with its fee switch active that activity translates directly into token burns. On September 4 the protocol burned a record 184,000 UNI, worth about $1.15 million, of which roughly 150,000 UNI, or more than 80%, was paid by Robinhood Chain traders, according to Bitcoin.com's Shiraz Jagati. UNI traded near $6.27 with a market capitalization of about $3.9 billion at the time. Jagati's own caveat is worth repeating: a $1.15 million day annualizes to roughly $420 million, or about 11% of supply if it held, which it will not.

Growing pains

The surge stressed shared infrastructure. Arbitrum reported a 14-minute gap in blob submissions to Ethereum during the peak, when Robinhood Chain accounted for about 28% of all blobs, per Bitcoin.com. Kerbrat has described Robinhood's strategy as balancing two wolves, conventional financial products and speculative tokens, and the current volume is plainly driven by the latter.

A note on the baseline: Decrypt puts the previous daily record at $989 million on August 28, while Bitcoin.com cites $875 million on August 29, most likely different DeFiLlama snapshots. The trend is not in dispute; the exact prior high is. Whether the volume is sticky, or a burst of tokenized-stock and meme speculation that fades with the market, will show up in the same DeFiLlama dashboards over the next few weeks.
